High Purity Manganese Products
Phase I - HPMSM
First stage of the production of the high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate HPMSM is launched in 2024 in Stepnogorsk.
The capacity of the 1st phase is 22,500 tons per year according to HPMSM physical weight.
At the first stage the HPMSM production technology consists of the direct combined loosening of the Mn containing ore concentrates, several stages of deep chemical purification of Mn sulfate solutions and evaporative crystallization of HPMSM.
HPMSM is used for further production of precursors for both LNCM (lithium nickel cobalt manganese) and LMFP (lithium manganese iron phosphate) types of cathode material for LIB’s (lithium-ion traction electric batteries).
Principal raw material for HPMSM production: manganese concentrates from deposits in the Republic of Kazakhstan, in which TMT has a 75% stake.
Phase II - Manganese Hub
At the second stage, it is planned to build a new manganese processing plant with the primary production of EMM electrolytic manganese and the production of other high purity manganese products with high added value. The organization of production is provided in the city of Aksu, Pavlodar region of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It is planned to organize a new production of high-purity electrolytic manganese (HPEMM) and EMM of standard quality. EMM will be partially diverted to internal processing with the production of HPMSM, electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD). Anhydrous iron hydroxide will be produced as an important by-product.
Competitive advantages for realization of the Manganese Hub project in Kazakhstan:

- own experience in implementing industrial projects and unique competencies in hydrometallurgical technologies, including extraction processes with a high degree of purification,
- cheap electricity,
- cheap own source of manganese concentrate,
- possibility to organize own sulphuric acid production from cheap sulphur to meet own needs in acid and steam,
- favorable local and international supply conditions, allowing to reduce capital expenditures,
- Government support and investment preferences.
These advantages make it possible to produce electrolytic manganese EMM (Mn 99.7% min) at low cost.

It is EMM electrolytic manganese that will be the base for the “Manganese Hub” in Aksu city, where there is its own direct connection to the power plant, which provides cheap electricity.
The main raw material for HPMSM production: manganese concentrate from deposits in which TMT has a 75% share in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the main necessary reagent is sulphuric acid. In order to provide sulfuric acid for the second stage of HPMSM / HPEMM production at Aksu, it is planned to build its own sulfuric acid production complex with a capacity of 150,000 tons per year. The sulfuric acid plant will supply the company not only with acid, but also with steam for the production process.
Estimated amount of capital investments for the 2nd stage: $160 mln.
HPMSM and HPEMM are used for further production of precursors for LIB cathodes of LNCM and LMFP types.
HPEMM and EMM are used as components for high quality ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Design work is currently underway and construction of the plant is expected to commence in September 2025 with start-up in 2027.
The production of anhydrous iron hydroxide as a by-product sets the stage for the production of ferrous sulphate, one of the necessary components for the production of iron phosphate required for the production of LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries as part of the Manganese Hub.
Resources and Reserves
The Group's manganese projects are secured by supply of manganese ore from deposits with Taza Metal's shareholding.
These projects are Akzhar-Sarytuma and Ulkenzhol deposits in Karaganda region, located to the west of Lake Balkhash and Tasoba manganese deposit in Akmola region.
The Ulkenzhol deposit currently operates a concentrator with a production capacity of up to 30,000 tons of 35% manganese concentrate per annum. The expansion program at Ulkenzhol and Akzhar-Sarytum envisages a 2-fold increase in production capacity. After the planned expansion of production and commissioning of the Tasoba deposit and concentrator, the total quantity of marketable concentrate is planned to be 120,000 tons per year.
Manganese concentrate is a saleable product sold to ferroalloy producers. Low-grade screenings are used for hydrometallurgical processing.
The ore composition of both deposits in terms of impurities and percentage of Mn2+ content fully meets the requirements for the production of high-purity manganese products.
Akzhar-Sarytuma and Ulkenzhol deposits
The Akzhar-Sarytuma and Ulkenzhol fields are located on the border of the Karaganda and Zhambyl regions, 60 km west of Lake Balkhash. The total contract area of Ulkenzhol LLP is 850 square kilometers.
Balance ore reserves and average grades for the deposits are as follows:
Tasoba
The Tasoba manganese ore deposit is located in Akmola region, 40 km south-east of Yesil station. South-east of Yesil station.
Balance ore reserves and average grades for the deposits are as follows:
Currently, the field is at the stage of completion of geological exploration and can be transferred to the production stage after completion of all necessary procedures.
